Winter Equipment Maintenance

Each winter extensive preventative maintenance work is done to assure mowers will be ready for the season ahead.  In the picture above Andy Berry, Chris Horton, and Cody Holmes are busy completely rebuilding the cutting units for our fairway mowers.  Cutting reels and roller bearings and seals are replace each winter.  New bed knives are installed and sharpened along with the reels.  Our staff rebuilds over 30 cutting units each winter.

Snow! We need the moisture!

I know that we have all been enjoying this incredibly mild winter, but we really needed some kind of precipitation.  Our staff has be busy over the last couple of weeks hauling water to vulnerable areas on the golf course.  Newly seeded and sodded areas along with exposed knobs on greens, tees and bunker faces have been watered.

Open winters can lead to winter dessication damage as soil surfaces dry and the lack of snow cover leaves the turf exposed to wind and cold temperatures.  So if you have some newly seeded or sodded areas in your lawn, you may want to get some water to them if this dry spell continues.  But remember to drain your hose and disconnect it from your outlet to avoid causing a water line break.

So I hope you all will forgive me for saying "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"
